64th Liberation Day Festivities Kick Off with Carnival Opening

Hagatna, GUAM -- Guam’s 64th Liberation Day festivities officially begin tomorrow evening with the opening of the Liberation Carnival at the Paseo Park. Dozens of vendors will be open for business, offering food, games and rides to the public.

Opening ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. at the carnival’s center stage with the introduction of contestants for Liberation Day Queen and Little Miss Liberation, followed by a ribbon cutting by Governor Felix P. Camacho.  Live entertainment by Guam’s local artists will also be provided throughout the night.

Over the coming weeks, island residents can enjoy games and activities for the entire family, carnival rides and nightly entertainment. Events scheduled on the carnival grounds include the coronation of the 2008 Liberation Queen and Little Miss Liberation on July 12.

The carnival is scheduled to run until July 27, 2008.

This year’s theme, Inafa’maolek:  Inaguaiya Yan Kinenprendi Para Todu, is in celebration of the true spirit of Guam’s people, one of love and respect.
